The science

Why this works the way it does.

Male pattern thinning is hormonal.

In genetically susceptible men, the enzyme 5-alpha reductase converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT binds to receptors in hair follicles on the crown and hairline, gradually shortening the growth phase of each hair cycle. Hairs grow back finer, thinner, and eventually stop growing back at all.

Effective interventions either reduce DHT (saw palmetto, finasteride), keep follicles in the growth phase longer (minoxidil), or provide nutrients the follicle needs to function.

Pumpkin seed oil — the human RCT

Cho YH, et al. (2014). "Effect of Pumpkin Seed Oil on Hair Growth in Men with Androgenetic Alopecia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial." Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

76 men with mild-to-moderate androgenetic alopecia were randomized to receive 400 mg of pumpkin seed oil daily or placebo for 24 weeks. The pumpkin seed oil group showed a 40% increase in mean hair count vs. a 10% increase in placebo. Self-rated improvement and investigator-rated improvement both favored the treatment group.*

Saw palmetto — the DHT angle

Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) extract has been studied as a natural 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. In a 2-year prospective study (Rossi et al., 2012), oral saw palmetto produced a modest but measurable improvement in hair growth in men with mild-to-moderate androgenetic alopecia. The effect is smaller than finasteride, but the side-effect profile is also dramatically lower.*

What this product is — and isn't

Keep is a daily supplement. It is not a drug. It is not a substitute for finasteride or minoxidil. It is designed for men who want a botanical-forward starting point, who are stacking it alongside other treatments, or who can't tolerate the side effects of pharmaceutical options.

Results take time. The hair cycle is measured in months, not days. Most clinical studies in this space measure outcomes at 12 and 24 weeks. Be patient with the process.
